  4.     THEOLOGY LESSON. Sammy Davis Jr. turned heads at the
  5. N.A.A.C.P.'s Image Awards ceremony last month by thanking Jesus
  6. for standing by him during a bout with throat cancer. Some
  7. wondered if Davis, who converted to Judaism in the 1950s, had
  8. become a born-again Christian. Not so, says Davis. He was so
  9. overcome by the sea of black faces that he "immediately went
  10. back to my upbringing. My grandmother used to go around saying
  11. `Thank Jesus.' It's more of a black thing to  say `Praise
  12. Jesus' than a religious thing or a denominational thing."
